Unexpected Weather

This summer has proven to be quite rainy. As most photographers know sometimes weather forces you to get a little creative with your shoots. For example, today I had two photography shoots scheduled and was a little worried because the weather did not look promising. I was fortunate enough to have a three hour window in the morning where the weather was suppose to be clear. Luckily, I was able to get both of my shoots done that I needed to and was super excited with the results. However, that did not stop the rain from pouring just as I was getting off at my stop near my apartment. So, even though I got lucky I was able to finish my shoots for the day I still ended up looking like i had jumped in a pool. Here are some things I always recommend just in case you don't get as lucky and end up getting some unexpected rain during you shoot:

1) Bring an umbrella. I unfortunately thought I could outsmart the weather and lost horribly today.

2) Always have a backup date in case the shoot gets rained out

3) Make sure to have a cover spot you can run to and wait out the rain if needed. Especially in the summer sometimes storms only last for a few minutes.

4) Don't be afraid to embrace the rain shoot! Always keep your equipment safe first and foremost by using a rain cover or umbrella, and of course know that sometimes the rain will be too much and this option wont be possible. However, a rain shoot can add a whole new level of creativity to your portfolio so give it a try!
