Surprise Engagement Shoots!

This past week I had a client reach out to me to book a surprise engagement shoot. This was super exciting, and after chatting for a while about how and where he wanted to propose to his soon to be fiance, we picked a time and date for the shoot. I was nervous because personally, I do not have a ton of experience with surprise engagement shoots, and my biggest fear was that I would somehow give away the surprise. My client and I decided to pick a restaurant near central park where I would wait until he and his partner walked by. He had given me a brief description on what both of them were wearing and from there I just casually waited until they passed me. Side note: if someone tells you what they are wearing you will all of a sudden begin to see many people wearing similar outfits. The next part was the trickiest because I had to slowly, but efficiently, follow them into and around central park until he picked a spot to propose. This felt like an eternity because of how nervous I was, and once the moment came I snuck around them to get some shots of the actual proposal. After the proposal happened, and his partner said yes, I was so relieved and was then able to jump into my normal photographer role and give guidance with posing and location for the other photos. There was a lot of planning and preparation involved, but it was all worth it after seeing how the photos came out.
