After a brief vacation last week I am excited to get back to making my regular posts! One thing I have been wanting to discuss for a while has been the importance of getting involved with your community as a photographer. In today's world so much marketing and work is done online behind the scenes. Don't get me wrong online marketing and promotion is also a huge tool that photographers use to grow their business. However, with online marketing there is also a lot of other photographers who are also doing the same thing. I would see one post from someone looking for a photographer and it would have 50 responses within 30 minutes of being posted. What ends up happening is photographers will start lowering their prices of their shoots in order to hopefully get the job. I have found more success by going out into the community, actually meeting people, and discussing my business with them face to face. A few ways I have done this include going to craft fairs and setting up a booth, or even handing out business cards to people. This face to face interaction allows potential clients to see you and your personality beyond just your website and portfolio. From this I have found that I have gotten way more positive responses than trying to compete for work online. What are some ways you have gotten involved in your community as a business owner?
