When you think about your engagement photos, you’re really thinking about how you want to remember this moment — the excitement, the laughter, and all the in-between glances that say “this is our story.”
And if you’re lucky enough to call New York City home (or even if you’re just visiting for your session), there’s truly no better backdrop. From romantic parks to city rooftops, NYC gives you endless possibilities. But with so many options, how do you pick the right one?
As a NYC engagement photographer, I’ve shot all over the city — and here are some of my favorite locations, along with a few tips to help you find the perfect spot for your photos.
⸻
🌿 1. Central Park — The Classic Choice That Never Fails
Central Park is timeless for a reason. Whether it’s the Bow Bridge, Bethesda Terrace, or the tree-lined Mall, every corner is filled with character and natural beauty.
It’s perfect if you love romantic, storybook photos with soft greenery, architecture, and space to move around without feeling crowded.
📸 Pro tip: Early morning sessions here are magical — soft light, fewer people, and that peaceful “just us” feeling.
⸻
🌇 2. DUMBO — Cobblestone Streets + Skyline Magic
DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is one of the most requested spots for NYC engagement sessions — and for good reason.
Between the Manhattan Bridge view on Washington Street and the Brooklyn Bridge Park waterfront, you’ll get that iconic skyline plus a bit of industrial charm.
It’s perfect for modern couples who want photos that feel stylish but real — think a mix of architectural lines and soft sunset light reflecting off the water.
📸 Pro tip: Aim for golden hour (right before sunset). The light over the East River is unreal.
⸻
🏙️ 3. Top of the Rock or Rooftop Sessions — The City From Above
There’s nothing more “New York” than a skyline engagement session. Rooftop locations like the Top of the Rock, Edge, or private terraces give you a cinematic, romantic vibe — like you’re starring in your own NYC love story.
These sessions are ideal if you’re dreaming of elevated, editorial-style photos with sweeping views of the city that never sleeps.
📸 Pro tip: Plan for just before sunset to capture that golden glow transitioning into city lights.
⸻
🌸 4. West Village — Cozy, Romantic Streets
For something softer and more intimate, the West Village is pure magic. Its charming brownstones, ivy-covered walls, and quiet corners feel like a hidden escape from the city buzz.
If you love laid-back, candid photos with a romantic, neighborhood feel — this is your place. Grab a coffee, walk hand-in-hand, and let the session feel like a date night.
📸 Pro tip: Bring a second outfit! West Village works beautifully for both casual and dressy looks.

🌅 5. Gantry Plaza State Park — A Queens Gem
If you want that Manhattan skyline in the background, Gantry Plaza State Park is unbeatable. It’s less crowded than Brooklyn Bridge Park and offers open skies, water views, and that iconic Pepsi-Cola sign.
Perfect for couples who want a modern, city-meets-serenity vibe.
📸 Pro tip: Sunset is everything here. The skyline lights up behind you, and the reflections are stunning.

💫 How to Choose the Right NYC Engagement Location
Here’s what I tell all my couples — your location should feel like you.
Before you decide, ask yourself:
• Do you want a city feel or something more natural and quiet?
• Are you more romantic and timeless, or modern and bold?
• What time of year will it be — spring blooms, fall color, or winter sparkle?
Once you answer those questions, we’ll find the spot that fits your story perfectly.
And remember — NYC has so many hidden gems. From tucked-away gardens to secret rooftop views, there’s always somewhere new to explore.
